when it is reviewed by police personnel and you will be notified
by e-mail. This will cause a significant delay in the reporting
of the crime. AFTER COMPLETING YOUR ONLINE REPORT, YOU WILL
RECEIVE A REPORT NUMBER VIA E-MAIL WITHIN 10 WORKING DAYS. DO NOT
CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REQUEST YOUR REPORT NUMBER AS THIS
WILL JUST CONFUSE THE PROCESS. IF YOU CANNOT WAIT THE 10 DAYS TO
GET THE REPORT NUMBER DO NOT MAKE YOUR REPORT VIA THIS SYSTEM.
If you need help in determining what type of crime you are trying
to report, you may call the Police Department at (650) 853-3160

requesting information on an existing report or need copies, you
will need to call the Records Section at (650) 853-3160.
The East Palo Alto Police Department requires certain information
be completed before an online report can be accepted. This information
is required for the following reasons:
- Should the crime(s) being reported ever reach the stage of prosecution,
the same information is required on all police reports before
the District Attorney can review it. Full information regarding
the victim is mandatory.
- The Police Department is required to report many different crimes,
not only to the State and FBI, but to other institutions an well.
These agencies also require complete identifications for reporting
purposes.
- Should a victim want an "official" copy of the police
report, by law the Police Department must verify their identity
before they can release a copy of the report.
- To help eliminate false reports via the Internet.
As with any police report, the information contained within the
report is considered confidential and can only be released to those
individuals who legally have a "right to know".
IMPORTANT NOTE: Knowingly submitting a false Crime Report
is a misdemeanor under the State Penal Code 148.5 PC (punishable
by 6 months jail, $1,000 fine, or both!).
