Before you begin your report, please read the following:

If you are reporting an EMERGENCY, or the crime you want to report is in progress (HAPPENING RIGHT NOW), DO NOT use this form to report it; instead, dial "9-1-1" on your telephone (This online system is not monitored continuously).

It is required that you have an address or a cross street for a location of occurrence of the crime or incident you are reporting in the City of East Palo Alto.

Our online reporting system does not have the ability to screen your reports to make sure they fit into the above criteria. If your report does not fit the above listed criteria it will be rejected when it is reviewed by police personnel and you will be notified by e-mail. This will cause a significant delay in the reporting of the crime. AFTER COMPLETING YOUR ONLINE REPORT, YOU WILL RECEIVE A REPORT NUMBER VIA E-MAIL WITHIN 10 WORKING DAYS. DO NOT CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REQUEST YOUR REPORT NUMBER AS THIS WILL JUST CONFUSE THE PROCESS. IF YOU CANNOT WAIT THE 10 DAYS TO GET THE REPORT NUMBER DO NOT MAKE YOUR REPORT VIA THIS SYSTEM.

If you need help in determining what type of crime you are trying to report, you may call the Police Department at (650) 853-3160 and they will advise you. If you need to come to the Police Department or prefer to make a report with a police officer, then you may come to the Police Department at 141 Demeter Street. The Police Desk is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 A.M. to 5 P.M. If you are requesting information on an existing report or need copies, you will need to call the Records Section at (650) 853-3160.

The East Palo Alto Police Department requires certain information be completed before an online report can be accepted. This information is required for the following reasons:

  • Should the crime(s) being reported ever reach the stage of prosecution, the same information is required on all police reports before the District Attorney can review it. Full information regarding the victim is mandatory.
  • The Police Department is required to report many different crimes, not only to the State and FBI, but to other institutions an well. These agencies also require complete identifications for reporting purposes.
  • Should a victim want an "official" copy of the police report, by law the Police Department must verify their identity before they can release a copy of the report.
  • To help eliminate false reports via the Internet.

As with any police report, the information contained within the report is considered confidential and can only be released to those individuals who legally have a "right to know".

IMPORTANT NOTE: Knowingly submitting a false Crime Report is a misdemeanor under the State Penal Code 148.5 PC (punishable by 6 months jail, $1,000 fine, or both!).
