Bell Street Playground
The City of East Palo Alto, YMCA of Silicon Valley, Coupons.com , and KaBOOM! are building a new playground at Bell Street Park! Kids, families, friends, and neighbors are all invited to participate in this exciting community building project.

THANK YOU for voting for your favorite playground design! Hundreds of votes were cast by community members for one of three great design options for the new playground. The winning design is Option B which received 224 votes.

Residents said they loved the “active” nature of the design with its multiple climbing features and swings. And, community members offered a number of great suggestions, including adding more color to the design, exploring options to improve visibility within the playground, and addressing the overall safety of the area. Those suggestions have been given to staff as they work to complete the final design.

With your help, the new playground at Bell Street Park is taking shape!

4News Release on the East Palo Alto / KaBOOM! playground building project
4Volunteer by calling (650) 853-3153 or emailing

The Bell Street Playground project is in partnership with KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most (www.kaboom.org).

KaBOOM! notes that children are playing less than any previous generation and this lack of play is causing them profound physical, intellectual, social and emotional harm. Not enough playspaces are being built; those that exist are often in disrepair. Recess is being eliminated from our nation’s schools. Kids are overscheduled, and in their free time, many choose to stay indoors, lulled by television, computers and video games. KaBOOM! is partnering with corporate sponsors and foundations who are joining in the cause for play to build brand new playgrounds in partnership with high need communities across North America. Through KaBOOM!’s Community Partner program, they work to match corporate Funding Partners with child-serving non-profit and municipal organizations like East Palo Alto, who are interested in participating in a community-built playground project.

The generous Funding Partner involved is Coupons.com (www.coupons.com), located in Mountain View, and East Palo Alto is grateful for their sponsorship of this community playground. Coupons.com operates a leading digital promotion platform that connects great brands and retailers with consumers, offering digital printable coupons, digital paperless coupons, coupon codes, card linked offers, and other promotions. The volunteers from Coupons.com are proud and happy to participate with East Palo Alto in this community project.

The City is also grateful to the Lewis and Joan Platt East Palo Alto YMCA for its support of the community. The Y is the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Its mission is to strengthen our community by improving the quality of life and inspiring individuals and families to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.
