AND SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY
City of East Palo Alto residents are invited to serve on the City boards and commissions described below that have vacancies as a result of expiring terms. If you are interested in volunteering to serve on one of these commissions/committees, applications are available at the City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 2415 University Ave, East Palo Alto, CA 94303. You may also call for an application at 853-3100. The deadline for the return of completed applications is 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2002 at the City Clerk's Office. Applicants must be residents of East Palo Alto and are required to familiarize themselves with the purpose of the committee that they are interested in prior to being interviewed by the City Council. Terms are four years beginning December 1, 2002 and ending December 31, 2006.
PLANNING COMMISSION Number of Members: 7, Number of Alternates: 1, Open
Seats: 1
Meets 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month - 7:30 p.m. - Council Chambers. The Planning
Commission reviews development proposals on public and private lands for compliance with the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance. The Commission reviews all development proposals requiring a use permit, architectural control, variance, minor subdivision and environmental review associated with these projects. The Commission is the final decision-making body for these applications, unless appealed to the City Council. The Commission serves as a recommending body to the City Council for major subdivision, rezonings, conditional development permits, planned development permits, Zoning Ordinance amendments, General Plan amendments and the environmental reviews associated with those projects. In addition, the Commission works on special projects as assigned by the City Council.
RENT STABILIZATION BOARD Number of Members: 7, Number of Alternates: 1,
Open Seats: 3.
Meets 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month 7:30 pm - Council Chambers. The Rent Stabilization Board is organized according to City Ordinance as approved by the voters. The Rent Stabilization Board is responsible for carrying out the provisions of the Rent Stabilization Ordinance including: (a) protecting residential tenants in the City from unreasonable rent increases by discouraging speculation in rental property and stabilizing rent increases; (b) protecting tenants from arbitrary, discriminatory or retaliatory evictions; and (c) assuring landlords both a fair return and rental income sufficient to cover costs of maintenance and operating expenses, as well as, the costs of capital improvements to their rental properties.
SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE Number of Members: 9, Number of Alternates: 2, Open Seats: 3.
Meets 1st Wednesday of each month, - 6:30 pm Council Chambers. The purpose of the Senior Advisory Committee is to encourage, foster, facilitate, establish and propose programs and services which enhance the social, economic, recreational, cultural, and personal well-being of the Citys senior population. The City Council has asked the Senior Advisory Committee to (a) recommend new City programs and services which can address the needs of seniors; (b) review existing programs and services and assess the benefits that they provide to the Citys senior population; and (c) advise the Council and other boards and committees of the City regarding matters that affect the Citys senior populations.
